Sold For A Stand – The Story Of Burnley’s Team Of The Seventies

£24.99

This hard-back book marks the 50th anniversary of Burnley’s Division Two title win in 1972/73, a landmark that was mirrored by Vincent Kompany’s Clarets champions, who stormed back into the Premier League exactly half a century later.

Burnley Football Club has produced many great teams – the ‘Team of the Seventies’ was one of the finest and legions of admirers still talk about them today. Martin Dobson, Geoff Nulty and Leighton James were just three of many players sold by Burnley chairman Bob Lord to pay the bills and, in doing so, denied manager Jimmy Adamson the opportunity to achieve even greater success with his team.

We celebrate those Burnley legends and ask ‘what might have been?’ using interviews with the legendary players of the era. There are also dozens of photographs, many of which have been colourised, as well as press cuttings and fan memories. All in all, over 280 pages of solid gold Burnley nostalgia.
