REVIEW
Talking Middlesbrough
If I had to recommend a Boro book to buy this would be my first
choice. It would be even better if I were receiving it! Paul Thompson
has compiled a selection of truly superb interviews of Boro players
past and present, each brilliantly illustrated with often rare action
photos as well as Paul's outstanding portrait shots.
Over the past few years Paul has been interviewing Boro players
and photographing them and the results have been carefully selected
to cover a remarkable transformation in football from the closed
world of maximum wage to today's global market of millionaire players.
There are some great names in this volume.
There are fascinating insights in each and every interview, from
George Hardwick's wartime football anecdotes, everyone diving down
onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge as a doodle-bug whistled overhead.
Memories of Ayresome
and Riverside. This is warts and all interviewing, Paul Thompson
has stripped away the magazine gloss to ask the questions that you
or I would be desperate to ask. There's humour and there's a whole
load of soul searching. But the truth is out there as plain as the
broken nose on Johnny Spuhler's face.
Saying something is a 'must buy' is often over-used, but Talking
Middlesbrough is simply one of the best Boro reads ever... A BRILLIANT
LITTLE RED BOOK.
